It is not the best way to redesign the city in the way that the old buildings are torn down and the new shinny tall buildings are replaced those places. Some of the famous cities in Europe are remodeling the old, destroyed factories or warehouses without destroying them all, so that they could be used once again.
Esslingen, a small city with about 90,000 people, is in the southwest of Germany. There are many hardware and other components factories. What makes this place special is the building called Das Dick. It was built in 1870 and named after its owner from 130 years ago. Inside the building, there is variety of restaurants, providing variety food from worldwide, a movie theatre with 9 screens, wine bars, a 10m high aquarium-type-of water tank, and so on. It is attracting millions of people a year.

In 1998, the productivity of the factory decreased yet it was not able to destroy it down since it was the registered cultural property of the country. So the city and the factory owner have invested 25million Euro to remodel it. Now it has become the symbol of the city.
The Mayor of the city says, "We have chosen the best policy to reserve the image of the city as a traditional, historied factory town, preserve the registered cultural property of the country, and be helpful to the citizens."

These days in Korea, there are lots of constructions going on. Samsung’s subunits are moving into 강남 as well as some of LG subunits. Not only that, everybody is interested in reconstructing the town or some part of it. Then where would they throw away all the industrial wastes from torn-down buildings. Also how much would it cost to buy the materials for building those?
It’s really nice to build and redesign the city as whole yet they really have to consider about the environment as well. They need to consider ESSD (Environmentally sound and sustainable development) rather than doing all the works in such a manner that pollutes environment and wastes all the resources that God has given us to ‘keep.’
